Why Do Payments Fail on Bluechain, and How Can I Resolve Them?

Payment failures on Bluechain can occur for various reasons, including trying to pay from an account before verification has been completed, attempting to pay restricted suppliers, not enough funds on the card, trying to pay with an Amex card or card provider controls, such as velocity limits or decline rules. This article provides an overview of common causes and solutions to help you resolve payment issues effectively.

Attempting a Payment Before KYC

Payments on Bluechain will fail if you haven't completed KYC:

  • KYC (Know Your Customer) is the verification process Bluechain must follow in order to confirm that a Bluechain account user is a legitimate business owner or employee and is indeed a real person.

  • Your ID must be verified and, if you signed up as a business, your business details verified before you are able to make a payment on your account. If your payment has failed and you have not verified your ID, you must go back to pay on the main menu and follow the simple verification process.

  • We must do these background checks to comply with AML regulations

Restricted Suppliers and Merchant Categories

Payments to certain suppliers may fail due to restrictions imposed by Bluechain. For example:

  • Suppliers with prohibited merchant categories cannot be paid through Bluechain. You can find a list of restricted categories on the Restricted Payments page.

  • Payments to yourself or your own company are not allowed under Bluechain’s regulations.

  • Payments to credit providers, i.e. mortgage repayments. It is a restriction of all credit card providers that credit cards cannot be used to pay for other credit.

Bluechain-Specific Payment Rules

Bluechain has unique rules that may affect payment processing:

  • Amex payments are currently restricted. UK issued Visa and Mastercard payments are fully accepted.

  • We currently cannot accept cards that were issued outside of the UK.

Card Provider Controls

In some cases, payment failures may occur due to card provider controls, such as velocity limits or decline rules. Once the card provider allows the transaction, it should process successfully. You may need to contact your card provider in the case of a decline that isn't due to a credit limit, as they may have temporarily blocked your account.

Contacting Support for Further Assistance

If you continue to experience payment issues, consider the following steps:

  1. Review your Bluechain verification status. If you have recently created the account and your payment is failing, it is most likely because you haven't been fully verified yet.

  2. Check the Restricted Payments page for prohibited merchant categories.

  3. Contact your dedicated credit card account manager or customer service agent for limit-related inquiries or velocity limit blocks.

  4. Use an alternative payment method, such as a different Visa or Mastercard.
